Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTANISLAVA (STELLA) GWOZDZ July 11, 1924 November 14, 2008 Peacefully in the arms of her daughter, on Friday, November 14, 2008 Stella (Baba) passed on to join her husband (Jozef, 1987) and her baby daughter (Bonnie 1948). Born in Horyniec, Poland on July 11, 1924, Stella was taken as a young girl in the middle of the night by the German Army to provide labor for the men as they prepared for war. Surviving the Second World War, she met her husband Jozef in an allied camp in Altenstandt Germany and gave birth to her first daughter Bonnie, who died in the same camp two years later. Jozef and Stella immigrated to Winnipeg in 1949 and had two more children, Joey and Lucy. She worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Health Sciences Centre. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Parish. Stella loved to sew dresses for her granddaughters, make perogies for her grandsons and visit her daughter and family in Texas. She enjoyed the outdoors and routinely had several gardens growing at the same time. She also cherished her time at their cottage in Lester Beach collecting wild mushrooms and blueberries. But most of all she lived for and adored her ten grandchildren. Joey and Kim's (nee Turner) children: Jana, Daniel, Marcus, and Alex and Lucy and Robert Despins' children: Kira, Lenai, Chanelle and the triplets Dane, Gage and Lucas. The memory of their Baba will live forever as it will in the hearts of the many people she knew. Stella's funeral service will be held on Monday, November 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories, in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. Thanks need to be extended to the special people who formed a visiting tree to ensure Baba had a visitor every day during her final stay in the hospital. Especially to Stella's dearest friend, Jean Mordarski, who spent endless hours visiting her and sharing the stories of their 60 year friendship. Also a special recognition to her granddaughter Kira, who visited her Baba everyday in the hospital and never failed to put a smile on her face and to share the odd sip of German beer which was Baba's one request. Thanks to Auntie Michele, who returned to Texas with Rob and the boys so Lucy could spend the special time with Baba during her final days. Finally, a big thank-you to the staff of Concordia One North who provided compassionate and special care to Baba.
