Date of Passing: Nov 16, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER FRITZSCHE After a three-year challenge with lung cancer, Alex finally found peace in the arms of his Lord and Saviour on November 16, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hildegard; his sons, Wolfgang (Sharron) and Claus (Norma); his grandchildren, Gordon (Lindsay), Eric, Kristyna and Derek; brother-in-law Siegfried (Mary) and nieces and nephews in Canada, Germany and the USA, as well as many dear friends around the world. Alex was born on September 8, 1918 in Dresden, Germany, the youngest in a large family, all predeceased. As a young man he was forced into the war and served with the Luftwaffe as a navigator, he spent the last few years of the Second World war entertaining his crewmates and captors as a theatre actor in POW camps in England, he made friends wherever he was! In 1955 he and his young family came to Canada and to Winnipeg, which he called home for the rest of his life. He worked extremely hard at various jobs, finally retiring from Flyer Industries in 1983 after 15 years of excellent service. Alex loved his family, and to entertain his many friends with stories and laughter. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he was a true handyman, equipped with a smile and a great sense of humour. He loved soccer and singing, whether at a birthday party or with The German Choir of Winnipeg which he was a member of for 30 years. Alex also belonged to the McDermot Avenue Baptist Church since 1957. He was the model for the energizer bunny, he had two speeds, fast and faster. And yet 90 years went by way too fast, we shall miss him and know that Alex was one of a kind. We love you Husband, Dad, Opa and Friend. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Glen Eden Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice that is fighting the hideous disease that is Cancer. The family would like to thank the caring, wonderful staff of East Wing at Riverview Health Centre especially Dr. Ted St. Godard, Caroline, Tony and Ruby. Also to palliative care nurse Ann and Dr. Duerksen you all took great care of Alex and made him feel as special as he was. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
