MARGARET MCLENNAN TURRIFF (nee FRASER) September 2, 1917 - November 17, 2008 During the quiet starry evening of Monday, November 17, 2008, at the age of 91, Margaret passed on to her eternal rest, warmly snuggled in her blankets and surrounded by the love of her children. She will be deeply missed by sons, Don (Elke) and Raymond; daughters, Susan Hammerback (Alan), Linda, Lori Maunsell; daughter-in-law Judy Mader and by her grandchildren, Sheri, Jeff, Kristy, Ryan, Stacey, Stefan, Lauren, Jesse, Megan, Nicole, Sherri, Amy and her seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Stan, her son Bob, and grandsons, Bobby and Tyler. Born in Dauphin, MB on September 2, 1917, she spent her early years in Swan River. She met Stan, the love of her life, while in nurse's training at St. Boniface General Hospital. They married in 1941 and spent the war years in Vancouver, Shelburne and Halifax. Upon their return to Transcona they built their home on Whittier Avenue, where they spent many happy years raising their six children. Margaret's life revolved around home and family - the cookie jar was always full and the door always open. She loved spending time with her friends - from the Saturday evenings with the rug rolled back for square dancing in the living room to summer campfires at the trailer in Spruce Sands. Other joys in mom's life were being the on-call neighbourhood nurse, gardening, knitting, sewing (especially doll clothes for the girls) music and the deep friendships with her Sewing Club group. Along with Stan, she was a longtime member of the Transcona Memorial United Church where she spent many hours in service and friendship as a member of the UCW. She was proud to be honoured with a lifetime membership in Confidence Rebekah Lodge #40. In 2001, she moved to Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, where she resided until her death. Everyone loved her cheerful, smiling welcomes, and she endeared herself to many of the staff and fellow residents with her beautiful spirit (and her never-ending ability to know the words to every song - she loved to sing!) The family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff who made Kin Place a welcome home for Margaret and her family. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West. Interment of ashes following the service at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Kin Place Personal Care Home, Box 28, Oakbank, MB R0E 1J0 or Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. W., Winnipeg, MB R2C 1T9.
