Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPEARL MELNYK Pearl Melnyk (nee Manko) passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the age of 93. Pearl was born on March 26, 1915, in Medika, MB, where she spent her childhood and received her early education. She came to Winnipeg in 1930 and was employed as a housekeeper. In 1934, she married Dmytro (Dan) Melnyk and they began to raise a family and build a life together. In 1956, Pearl found employment in the bakeshop at Eaton's. Upon retirement, she assisted Dan in the operation of his business, Melnyk's Shoe Clinic. Pearl has been a member of the Holy Eucharist Church parish for over fifty years and participated in many groups and activities of the parish - from perogy-making to seniors' outings. Her faith was a very important part of her life and, until this past year, she regularly and devotedly attended services at her church. She has also been a member of several other senior's groups and has served in an executive capacity with some of them. Of the many interests and activities she enjoyed, travel was a highlight. She truly enjoyed the numerous trips she made with her husband. However, what she cherished most was the time she was able to spend with her family. She doted on them in so many ways and took great joy in preparing family dinners where they could all be together. Pearl is survived by her sons, Walter (Marilyn), David (Diane), and Donald (Valerie); eight grandchildren, Donna (Richard), Jeff (Cindy), Janice (Brent), Ken (Joanne), Jacqueline (Glenn), Glen (Cathy), Brian (Charlotte), and Barbara (Paul); and ten great- grandchildren, Breanne, Alexis, Jay, Madison, Christopher, Sarah, Michael, Emily, Isabella, and Gavin. She is also survived by a sister, Polly, a brother, Peter (Anne), a stepsister, Josephine, many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by Dan, her loving husband of 47 years, a daughter-in-law, Edna, her father and mother, her stepmother, a brother and sister, four stepsisters, and two stepbrothers. Prayers will be sung at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21 and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Watt Street at Munroe Ave. with Rev. Fr. M. Winn officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her eight grandchildren. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, a donation may be made to a charity of one's choice. Special and grateful thanks are extended to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge, Holy Family Home, and Concordia Hospital for the generous care and kindness provided. Pearl was a kind and loving person who touched the hearts of all who knew her. She will be always missed and never forgotten. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
