MICHAEL GELUCH Peacefully, with family by his side, Michael Geluch passed away November 20, 2008 at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis and his parents, John and Anne Geluch. Left to cherish Mike's memory are his son John, daughter Patricia Ihme (Marcel), grandsons, Murray (Kelly) and Robert, sisters, Helen Smerchanski, Lena Stetwick, Mary Stetkewich and many nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends Wally and Lesia Whyte, with whom he shared many happy memories and miles. Mike was born April 2, 1918 in Malonton, MB. He lived on the homestead until his 18th birthday when the depression forced him to leave. He rode freight trains, worked bush camps, harvests, and gold mines. He completed apprenticeship as a Diesel Mechanic and began a 36-year career with CNR at their Transcona Yard finishing in the Motive Power Shop. Mike was a union member of the International Association of Machinists Lodge 484 promoting workplace safety and serving in various executive positions. Being a Pioneer member of St. Joseph's Church since '52, Mike was active in the Men's and Senior's Clubs as well as on the Bingo Committee. Following his retirement in 1980, he helped local seniors with their Income Tax. Mike spent many happy times in the Whiteshell and especially at their cabin on Red Rock Lake with family and friends camping, fishing, hunting, berry picking, and playing cut throat card and board games. He also enjoyed travelling to many destinations whether by plane, train or car and become his favourite part of retirement. Mike's determination was what made him a survivor, beating cancer numerous times. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at River East Personal Care Home for their exceptional care of Mike for the last year and to the staff at Concordia Hospital for their kindness and support. A Memorial Service celebrating Mike's life will take place at St Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., November 24, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his name. His gentle nature, logic and reliability will be missed the most. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
