YVONNE MARIE-LOUISE JULIETTE DESAUTELS With sadness, we said good-bye to our beloved Tante Yvonne on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Foyer Valade in Winnipeg. Tante Yvonne was in her 99th year. Yvonne was predeceased by her siblings Euclide, Marie, Antoinette, Jeanne, and Alice. Yvonne is survived by many nieces and nephews; she will be especially missed by her godson Frank Benoit (wife Lynne, daughter Jennifer and baby granddaughter Kaia Yvonne), niece Lorraine Delorme and great-niece Carol Burrell. We feel blessed to have shared her life for such a long time. Yvonne was born in Letellier, Manitoba on December 5, 1909. Her parents were residents of Letellier, moving from St. Jean-Baptiste in 1899. She was educated in St. Norbert and St. Mary's Academy in Winnipeg, and then began her teaching career that lasted 42 years. Her teaching adventures brought her to such places in Manitoba as Waterhen, Lorette, Marchand, and finally she settled in Letellier where she taught from 1946 to retirement in 1974. On her 90th birthday, Yvonne was delighted when many of her former Letellier students returned to honor her. Yvonne was a very active community member in Letellier. She served on the Board of Governors for the Caisse Populaire for many years. In 1974, following her retirement, she became a founding member of the Club d'Age d'Or serving on the executive board until 90 years of age. She also served the community as a volunteer fundraiser at the local bingo until 1999. She was a strong supporter of the Parish of St. Pie and served many a hamburger from the Knights of Columbus' canteen at the Morris Stampede. Well into her nineties, her leisure time was spent with her needlework and her vegetable garden, which she planted, tended, harvested and preserved. Many enjoyed the fruits of her labour. Yvonne also loved to travel and learn about new places. She traveled extensively in Canada and abroad, and had a special love for Hawaii. Yvonne touched many lives and many lives touched her. A special thank you to the incredible people of Letellier who assisted her in living independently in her home until the age of 95, especially the faithful care and attention given by Debbie and Marcel Bissonnette. Her last three years brought new and wonderful people to Yvonne's life. Enough praise cannot be given to the home care workers in Letellier and the staff at Foyer Valade who treated Tante Yvonne with such love and respect. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Pie Parish Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Interment will follow in the Letellier cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parish of St. Pie, Letellier, Manitoba R0G 1C0. MORRIS FUNERAL HOME Phone 746-2451 Toll Free 1-866-746-2451 morrisfuneralhome@mts.net
