ALICE GAYNOR Passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the VanDaele Extendicare, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the age of 92. Alice was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 18, 1916. She lived there until she came to Fort William, Ontario, with her husband in 1947. They later moved to Port Arthur. Alice was devoted to her family and to her church (St. John's Anglican) where she taught Sunday school and led the young girls group, Junior Auxiliary for many years. She was also a member of the St. John's Anglican Church Women. Alice was a former member of the Princess Beatrice Chapter of the I.O.D.E. She was the first president of the Jaycettes and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary 4th Field Ambulance. Alice loved to play bridge and was a keen gardener. She was an avid reader. Her greatest pleasure came from travelling and she enjoyed many trips both overseas and in Canada. Alice is predeceased by her husband Jim in 1992, her sister Mary, brother Walter and son-in-law James Miller. She is survived by her beloved daughter Janice, grandsons Matthew (Kathleen Gregory) and Andrew (Pamela Chikoski). She is also survived by sister Helen Sampson, Myrtle Babiak and brother William, all of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and brother-in-law Clifford Gaynor (Bea) of Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at St. Andrew's United Church (712 Wellington St. E. Sault Ste. Marie, ON) on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Philip Miller and Mrs. Janet Norman officiating. Interment will be in Thunder Bay in the spring. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Andrew's United Church or the Churchill branch of the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library.
