PAULINE DRATOWANY Peacefully, on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the age of 86, our beloved mother and Baba passed away at Concordia Hospital. Pauline was born December 20, 1921 in Selenyj Rih, Ukraine. She and two brothers were orphaned in the Great Ukrainian Famine and she later lost both brothers in the war. A farm worker in Germany, Pauline came to Canada in 1948, married and raised her family here. She first resided on Elgin Avenue, later in Fort Rouge and since 1955 in Elmwood. Pauline worked at New Corona Café and Furgale Broom Company. She loved to go camping and mushroom picking and was proud of her immaculate lawn and garden. Pauline had a resilient, positive nature and looked for the bright and funny side of any situation - an enduring example for her grandchildren in work ethic and attitude. Pauline is survived by sons, Tony (Linda), Alex (Diane); grandchildren, Anthony, Arvelle, Alexander and Kyle; great-grandson, Jonathan. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Alexander and close friend, Hnat (Harry) Kalyniuk. Her sons and their families wish to thank Dr. Babick and her nurses and caregivers at Holy Family Nursing Home, as well as Concordia and Seven Oaks Hospitals and prior to Holy Family, Oakview Place Care Home. Gratitude is also extended to her kind Home Care workers and neighbours, the Moskwa family, for all their help. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with The Very Rev. Archpriest G. Mielnick officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Baba (Paulina) was the best Baba (grandmother) you could ever have in the world. She had a excellent sense of humour, despite all struggles. She always had a smile on her face and could turn any problem, into a joke. Baba was a good mother, wife, who raised her children well and tended to the garden. She made us Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving meals, that were delicious. Baba did not have too many belongings, but what she had she made due with and she had her necessities met, warmth, food, clothing and shelter. Baba was very fortunate to have a nice gentleman named Harry (her boyfriend), who very kind to her, bringing her homemade food, when she was too old to cook, taking walks with her, reminiscing over old photo albums and having long conversations about the way thing used to be, which made her life meaningful. - Posted by: Arvel Dratowany (Granddaughter) on: Apr 15, 2019
