JOSEPH (JOE) HARTMAN Peacefully on November 22, 2008, at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home, Joe Hartman aged 92 years of Lundar, MB. Joe was born on August 2, 1916 in Grayson, SK. As a young man he moved to the Clarkleigh area with his family. Joe was a self-taught man. In earlier years, he was the first man to have a stack-mover in the Interlake. Along with his brothers, they custom hayed together. He owned and operated the milk truck in the 1940's and did deliveries to Modern Dairy, City Dairy and Crescent Creameries in Winnipeg. He met his wife to be, Hazel Taylor, while driving the milk truck. They were married on July 12, 1952 and were blessed with two sons, Barry and Glen. During the 60's, Joe and Hazel operated a dairy business and then switched into a beef operation until the late 70's. It was in the 60's that Joe also owned construction equipment. When they sold the beef operation, Joe went into custom haying and continued to do so until he was 89 years of age. He was a very busy man but would always take the time to help anyone. He was a kind and gentle person, a true animal lover - especially to his horses, and a skilled cattleman. In earlier years, he loved to travel the country-side buying and selling. One would never know what new purchase may be found in the yard after his adventures. It was on these travels that Joe would have the opportunity to speak with so many people, which was a favourite past time of his - he loved to talk with people. He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel of 56 years; two sons, Barry (Wendy) of Nicholasville, Kentucky and Glen (Melissa) of Ashern, Manitoba; his grandchildren, Brad, Chris and Ryan, Stephanie; three sisters, Agnes Stefanson of Lundar, MB, Mary (Ed) Iverson of Winnipeg and Eva Dicks of Warren, MB; his brother Anton (Opal) of Winnipeg, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. He was predeceased by his parents George and Eva Hartman; two brothers John and Jack, along with three sisters Evelyn, Anne and Lena. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 28, 2008, at the Lundar Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Interment to follow in the Otto District Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Reykdal, Ryan Reykdal, John Stefanson, John Kostyshyn, Jim Scharf and Donald Thorkelson. The family would like the thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home and E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale for the wonderful care Joe received during his time there. A special thank you to Melissa for all the time you spent with Joe - the trips and all the special things you did for him. Also thank you to Arnason Funeral Home for the care and compassion shown to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
