Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR JOYCE MELSTED Peacefully, Eleanor J. Melsted lost her battle with cancer at Gimli Community Health Centre on Saturday, November 22, 2008 with her loving and caring husband at her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Axel, of 43 years, their three children, Karen Rogers (Carl), Darrell Melsted (Debbie) and Kelvin Melsted (Anne) and six grandchildren, Noah, Mitchell, Donny, Jordan, Kirkland and Tristan. She is also survived by her mother, Jessie Schnerch (nee Lesko), and her brother, Dave Schnerch (Inger), cherished cousin Patrick Schnerch (Cathy) and nephews, David Schnerch (Melanie) and Alan Schnerch (Erin) and many special and dear relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Adam Schnerch, in 2000. Eleanor was born in Winnipeg and was raised in Camp Morton, Manitoba attending Berlo School. After graduating from Gimli Composite High School she worked at the Gimli Air Base. In 1965 she married her loving husband, Axel, and there they raised their family on the family dairy farm in Arnes. Eleanor was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout her life, Eleanor used her many gifts and talents to serve her family and community. She continued her education, was an active member of St. Benedict's Parish, the Gimli Art Club, the Adult Literacy Program where she was awarded several Volunteer Awards, one of them being the Margaret Lawrence Award. She wrote a book commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Camp Morton and coordinated the 100th Anniversary Celebration. Eleanor also enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Benedict's Church, Camp Morton, Manitoba on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Art Seaman officiating. Interment will take place at Arnes Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers are her grandchildren. The family sincerely thanks the Doctors, Nurses and Connie at Gimli Community Health Centre for their wonderful support and care. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be.
