KENNETH (KEN) GORDON COX December 6, 1937 - November 23, 2008 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Kenneth Gordon Cox, husband, father, grandfather and friend on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Remaining to forever cherish Ken's memory are his loving wife, Angela; daughter Vanessa (Dale) Swereda; sons, Chris (Sheila) Cox and Julian (Laurie) Cox; and grandchildren, Lindsay Swereda, Kelsey Swereda, Dylan Swereda, Haelley Cox, Ryan Cox, and soon to join us, Lily Cox. Ken can also lay claim to a large extended family overseas and in the USA. He was predeceased by his son Ashley in 1973. Ken was born in Halifax, England. He served proudly with the British Army, 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards from 1956 to 1959. In 1962 Ken was married to the love of his life Angela. Looking to make a better life for his family, Ken immigrated to Winnipeg in 1967 with wife Angela, daughter Vanessa and son Ashley. In Winnipeg, Ken was very active in the community, serving as a soccer coach and convener at Weston and Tyndall Park Community Centres. In 2002, Ken retired from Reliance Products after 16 years of service, most recently as Logistics Coordinator. In retirement, Ken dedicated some of his time as a fitness instructor for the VON S.M.A.R.T. program, running a regular class for seniors on Tuesdays. Ken enjoyed travel. A year did not pass without the enjoyment of a family vacation, be it the familiar and well-loved road trip to the Black Hills, regular sojourns home to England or a well-deserved trip to sunnier climates in the winter months. Ken was very fond of his beloved dog Chloe and the two always enjoyed a walk with one another at their nearby lake. He loved bowling, golf, painting and had a particular fascination with all things historical. Most of all Ken loved his family, with a particular soft spot for his grandchildren. He was always ready to lend his skilled hands to his children for anything and everything they needed, and leaves as his legacy the fine and loving work he performed during all of his children's home improvement projects, for which he will be sorely missed. He will be most remembered for his dry wit, and relaxed, easy-going nature. In any room Ken was a welcome presence; he was accepting of everyone and never passed judgment on others. A memorial service for Ken will be held on Saturday, November 29 at 3:00 p.m. in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 730 McPhillips Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Barnabas Anglican Church or Cat-Tails Rescue Shelter3 - 1353 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg.
