HILKA BACHMANN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hilka Bachmann on November 25, 2008 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 91. She will be sadly missed by devoted daughter Elke; grandchildren Dave, Wendy and Penney; great-grandchildren Kayla, Ethan, Joel and Owen. She is also survived by her sister Inwelde Kasten-Schipper and in-laws Charlotte, Yete Rink, Gerd and Ilsa; Arlene and Dianne (nee: Draffin). Before coming to Canada, Hilka worked as a home economics teacher in Germany. She emigrated to Canada with her daughter Elke and son Menno in 1953 to meet up with her husband, Otto who had secured a job at the University of Manitoba. Her son, Udo was born in 1955. Hilka worked very hard as an immigrant. She was an assistant librarian and a polio survivor. She helped students in the two libraries at the University of Manitoba. She had a love for opera music and sang beautifully. She enjoyed her grandchildren as well as the great-grandchildren. We wish to thank the nursing staff at the St. Boniface Hospital as well as the WRHA (Angela Gentile SW and homecare) as well as the private homecare agencies that helped Elke to look after her mom at home and in the hospital. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 200 Dalhousie St. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
