He was born in Warwick, England, February 11, 1919 and met his wife Trudie in Birmingham in 1937. They were married on June 6, 1938 and their daughter Julie was born in 1939. Roy and Trudie came to Canada in 1960 and settled in Winnipeg where their daughter and son-in-law were living. Roy joined the British Trade Commission in Winnipeg in 1962 and then was transferred to the British High Commission in Ottawa and remained there until his retirement in 1983. He was inducted as a Member of the British Empire and travelled to England with his wife and daughter to receive the honour from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 1984. Roy and Trudie left Ottawa the next year and returned to Manitoba to be with their daughter and family. They lived in Winnipeg for a short while but they really preferred to live in the country and so moved to Sanford, then to Oakbank and finally settled in Grosse Isle in 1986. During his career he was privileged to meet such notables as John Diefenbaker, Pierre Elliot Trudeau and Margaret Thatcher. He is survived by Trudie, his wife of 70 years, his daughter Julie and husband Al, grandson Mark and his wife Shirley and their daughter Samantha, granddaughter Deborah and husband George and beloved little four legged friend Buddy. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in Stonewall. Donations in Roy's memory may be made to the charity of your choosing.
