Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT MARTIN After a life well lived and surrounded by those who loved him, Robert Martin (Bob) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the age of 83. He had battled diabetes and subsequent complications for many years, bravely and without complaint. Bob was born on December 21, 1924, son of Sabina and Jacob Martin, the second of six children. He was raised in Winnipeg's North End. He proudly served in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War, performing convoy duty in the north Atlantic. Bob and his first wife Gay had three children, Angela, Gary and Brady. Bob excelled as a Master Furrier, having entered the trade at the age of sixteen. He was known for his superior craftsmanship and hard work. When he found some free time Bob enjoyed fishing, gardening, horseshoes, cooking and giving advice freely . He was predeceased by his beloved second wife Iona and his older brother Dave. He is lovingly remembered by his children Angela Martin (grandchildren Kelly and Jamie and great-grandchildren Micaela and Jimi), Gary Martin (spouse Jo-Anne, grandchildren Vanessa Patrick (Jim) and Chelsea Welter (Ryan) and great-grandchildren Jamie, Anthony, Madison, Mackenzie, Montana, Stone, Holland and Halia), Brady Martin (spouse Elaine, grandchildren Devon and Alanna), Denise McInnes (spouse Blair, grandchildren Courtnie and Tessa), Mark Boissoneault (spouse Ocean, grandchild Dan (Tara) and great-grandchild Kira), Victor Boissoneault (grandchildren Joel and Karissa and great-grandchild Donavin). Also left to cherish his memory are sister Freda Klayh, brothers Victor (Helen), Albert (Betty), Fred (Ruth) and numerous other family members and friends. Throughout his life Dad loved dogs, especially his little Su-Ling who was by his side to the end. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dad's neighbours Wesley and Bill Matthew for their kindness and care. Dad loved their daily phone calls. We would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to the many doctors and caregivers for the compassionate care and respect shown to Dad over the years. We also want to thank the Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care during Dad's final days. A viewing will take place on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 also at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, beginning at 12:30 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in Bob's memory may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
