ALLEN GORDON CHARTRAND Peacefully on November 26, 2008, at the Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side, Allen Chartrand of Winnipeg, formerly of Oak Point, MB. Allen will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara; daughter Cindy Klassen (Kelly) of Stonewall, MB; sons Terry of Brandon, MB, Tim (Brigitte) of Winnipeg, and Greg of Winnipeg; his grandchildren Tiffany, Aaron, Ryan, Luke, Brittany, Shane, Amber; one brother Neil of Qualicum Beach, BC; sisters Rita Chartrand of Oak Point, Edna Stepchuk of Oak Bank, MB, Elaine Stanzel of Beaverton, ON, along with many more relatives and friends. Allen was predeceased by his first wife Iris in 1989, mother Bertha in 1983, father Wilfred in 1994 and brother Larry in 1993. Dad was born in Deerhorn, MB on November 9, 1933 and just recently celebrated his 75th birthday with family and friends. He moved to Oak Point in 1948 and in 1952 started work as a heavy equipment operator for 40 seasons on road construction. He was a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba for 30 years and from 1979 - 1992 he worked for the Department of Highways where he received a Meritorious Service Award. Dad retired in 1992. During his retirement, Dad enjoyed bowling, golfing, coffee and card games with friends and travelling to places such as Arizona, Hawaii, Mazatlan, Alaska and BC. Grandpa especially enjoyed it when the grandchildren came for sleepovers. There was lots of ice cream, cookies, juice and other treats while they would spend time playing cards, watching the game show channel and telling long stories.... We're sure going to miss you Grandpa, Papa! In keeping with Allen's wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the Notre Dame Cemetery on #6 Highway with Melanie Kauppila officiating. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Health Sciences Centre, the St. Boniface Hospital, the Home Care nurses and Dr. Heather Frame for all their care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot, ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3V 0V9.
