RUTH CAMERON DREW (1924 - 2008) With great sadness the family of Margaret Ruth Cameron Drew announces her death at the Victoria General Hospital, November 28, 2008. Ruth was born in Kitscoty, Alberta, daughter of John and Logie Drew. She was predeceased by her sisters, Merran (Hildyard) Leeds, Claresholm, Alberta, Helen (Arn) Clark, Victoria, BC and Janet (Jim) Younie, Edmonton, Alberta and her very good friend Megs (Margaret) Robinson of Winnipeg. Ruth is survived by 11 nieces and nephews from across Canada and by her adopted family, Brian and Kerry Acland and their children, Susan and Andrew of Winnipeg. Ruth was more than appreciative of the love and support she received from the Aclands. Ruth attained her B.A. from the University of Alberta in 1947. She studied piano and voice under the late Dr. Gladys Whitehead in Winnipeg. She loved music and was a charter member of the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus, and sang in church choirs in Winnipeg. Ruth worked in radio advertising at CJCA, Edmonton, CKRD, Red Deer and CKY, Winnipeg. She also worked in public relations for the United Way of Winnipeg and retired from Employment and Immigration for the Federal Government in 1987. Ruth was an accredited member of the Canadian Public Relations Society and served as their second woman president in 1972. Ruth was a great supporter of the Misericordia Foundation. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a long time member of the Wildewood Club. Victoria Beach was a highlight of her summers since the 1950s where she made and kept many good friends. The family would like to thank Ruth's friends from the Victoria Beach, the Southwood Green, Mary, Mother of the Church choir members, Oak St. and the Wildewood Club for the support and friendship they offered. You know who you are. In lieu of flowers and because of Ruth's love of dogs, especially Maggie, her canine companion, acquired through the Humane Society's Adoption Program, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or to a charity of your choice. Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg on December 3, at 2:30 p.m. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
