DARREN CHRISTOPHER KINASH On Saturday, November 30, 2008 after a long and courageous battle, Darren's suffering ended. Darren was predeceased by his father David Kinash, grandfather John Kushneryk, grand-parents Marion and Fred Kinash, uncle Bill Kushneryk. He is survived by his mother Valerie Grainger, grandmother Edith Kushneryk, stepfather Ken McAlpine (Steven and Janene), Aunt Cecile Kushneryk, cousins, Ron (Bev) and Bill (Janet) Kushneryk and families, lifelong friends Greg (Bonnie) Cole, Pat Tucker, Darren (Barb) Greengrass, Russ Erskine, Barry Irwin, Gary Fries, Francine Allan and many more too numerous to mention. Darren was born on March 19, 1966 in Winnipeg. He attended Gladstone Elementary School and Churchill Hill School where he took auto body and painting courses. At a young age he enjoyed working on old cars with his dad in the garage as a hobby. After his dad's untimely death when he was 15, Darren carried on this hobby with his long-time friend Greg and his close friends. Darren especially enjoyed rod runs and car shows, hanging out with friend Pat and travelling to Back to the Fifties with his close friends. Darren enjoyed reading and collecting car magazines and car memorabilia. Whenever anyone in the neighbourhood had a car problem it arrived at Darren's garage for repair. Darren loved all animals and over the years he rescued many strays, some he kept and some landed up at his mom's house. Val and Ken wish to thank the wonderful staff of MSICU, all of Darren's doctors, support staff and especially the nursing staff on 5E at St. Boniface Hospital who were his second family when we weren't there and did everything they could to make him as comfortable as possible for the past two years, as well as all medical and nursing staff at the Victoria Hospital where he had been previously and his dedicated friends who always took the time to visit him. Darren will be missed in many ways by many people. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye Darren, but we know you suffered long enough with all our love, Mom, Ken and Nan. A memorial service celebrating Darren's life will be held on Thursday, December 4 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, Darren would have wished a donation be given to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J COUTU CO.
