Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONTE SIMON Monte Simon passed away peacefully on November 24, 2008 at the Victoria Hospital, surrounded by his family. Monte is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years Betty; daughters Anna-Gail (Henry), Alexandra, Marlee and Ariella Goldfeld; Sherrill (Christopher) and Benjamin Best; Deborah, Jeremy and Ruby Boulard; Ilana (Ari), Jesse and Evan Marantz; brother Harold (Libby) Simon; and sister-in-law Shirlee Doupe of Australia. Monte was predeceased by his parents Rose and Alex Simon, in-laws Ethel and Eddie Helfgott. Monte was born October 19, 1928 in Winnipeg and lived here his entire life. He was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, where he blew the shofar for many years, and of the General Monash Legion. Monte was a cutter at Sterling Cloak before joining his father at Simon's Deli in the 1950s and 1960s. For 22 years, he worked at the Post Office, retiring in 1991. Monte loved spending time with his beloved Betty and family at their condo in Florida and at their Winnipeg Beach cottage. His Canada Day Parade at the beach was renowned. Over the last year, Monte was well cared for at the Charleswood Care Centre, Sharon Home and Simkin Centre. Monte enjoyed a special 80th birthday party in October and, despite being very ill the last month, he still recognized us all to the end. His good humour and sociable nature, his enduring love for Betty, his pride in his grandchildren, and his dedication to Judaism will always be remembered. Memories of Zaida Monte will last forever and he will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends. Funeral services were held November 26 at Congregation Etz Chayim with Rabbi Larry Lander officiating. Interment was at Hebrew Sick Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Goldfeld, Ari Marantz, Jesse Marantz, Evan Marantz, Jeremy Boulard and Joel Ostrow. Shiva was observed at 110- 640 Mathias Ave. If desired, donations may be made to the Eddie Helfgott Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
