KENNETH EDWARD BISHOP With great sadness we must announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather Kenneth Edward Bishop on December 1, 2008. With family by his side, Ken peacefully left this world for a better place. Ken was born on June 14, 1930 in Gilbert Plains, MB to Wilfred Conrad (Fred) and Florence Mabel (nee Rawson) Bishop. Sadly Ken's mother passed away while he was very young and he went to live with his cousins, the Stevenson's, of Kelvington, SK. He had many fond memories of his years out there. With the advent of the Second World War, Fred went off to war and Ken stayed with his new stepmom and siblings. As Ken grew up he worked at various jobs such as crane operator at the rolling mills in Selkirk and as a dock worker for the fishing boats on Lake Winnipeg. In 1952, he bought a farm in Eriksdale, MB where he lived the rest of his life. It was in Eriksdale that he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Garrity. They were married on August 3, 1957 at St. Cuthbert's Church at Lily Bay. Ken and Shirley operated a mixed farm and raised their seven children. They enjoyed going camping in the summers and managed to go to California, Tennessee, Texas and Alaska in their travels. Along with his wife of 51 years, Shirley, Ken leaves to mourn his son Ken (Yvonne) and their daughter Sherri of Edmonton, AB; son, Brad (Tena) and their children, Terry (Alicia) and their daughter Kristina, Chad (Sam) their sons, Tyler, Dustin, Dyllon and also their three foster children, Mark, Dakota and Lane; son, Duane (Melinda) and their children, Sabrina, Garrit, Courtney and Ashton; daughter Kelly Pagee and her children, Connie, Lee and Charlotte (Tobi) with Madison and Serenity; daughter Sherry and her children, Shannon, Mitchel, Megan and Willie; daughter Diane and her children, Bryton and Casie with Hayden and Haylee; son Sean (Brindy) and their sons, Nathan and Connor. He also leaves to mourn Dick Garrity; his sisters, Irene Nordholt of Sundre, AB, Brenda (Arthur) Brown of Okotoks, AB, Wendy (Ed) Gerbrandt of Edmonton, AB, Debbie (Jim) Shields and Joanne; his brother Danny and brother-in-law Milo Fisher all of Winnipeg, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his sisters, Ellen (Ted) Boles of Burnaby, BC, Cindy Fisher, his brother Linton, son-in-law Leo Pagee, brother-in-law Lloyd Nordholt, his in-laws, Fred and Beatrice Garrity, his own parents and his stepmother Thelma. Ken had a lot of health problems over the years but he always met every challenge with courage, dignity and a great sense of humour that we all will miss. He was a wonderful, caring father who adored his children and grandkids. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will conclude at the hall. Active pallbearer for Ken will be his grandson Mitchel. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, along with Dr. Burnet, for the great care Ken received over the years. Dad was very grateful for this. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital Guild, in care of Irene Sigurdson, PO Box 474, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0, or a charity of your choice.
