Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE STEINGARTEN With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in her 100th year on November 29, 2008 at the Simkin Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Anne was a beacon of light to all those who knew her. She maintained a positive outlook on life throughout her years and had an unfailing sunny disposition. Anne was an active person both physically and professionally. It was her habit to walk miles every day, including in Winnipeg's minus 30 degree days. Anne had three degrees; attended the University of Manitoba graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics in 1930, followed by two others. She taught professionally in Winnipeg for over 30 years. Anne Fineman was the fourth and youngest child in her family and the only person in the family to be born in Canada. Anne married David Steingarten in 1935. He predeceased her in 1971. She was also predeceased by a son, Earl, in 1987 and brothers, Laurie and Abe Fineman, and sister Rachel (Rae) Wolodarsky. Anne is survived by two children, Leonard Steingarten (Rosemary) in Winnipeg and Elaine Pressman Bom (Ruud Bom) in Ottawa. She leaves six grandchildren who will miss their beloved happy and smiling Baba : Ari Pressman (Stacey) in Pittsburgh, Amy Pressman (Charles Cyna) in Toronto, Sarah Pressman (Brian Potetz) in Lawrence, Kansas, Derek Steingarten (Brie) in Boston, Evan Steingarten in Toronto, and Kai Steingarten in Vancouver. She also leaves nine loving great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emily and Chloe Pressman; Riley, Kyler and Jaron Cyna; and Oren, Daniel and Gideon Steingarten. Anne Steingarten was an inspiring, exceptional and unique woman. A rare woman of unrivaled quality. Her spirit lives on in her children, grandchildren and great-grand-children. Anne will be deeply missed. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the professional staff of The Simkin Centre with special thanks to Maria Pagdato and Marta Rivera who were both friends and companions. The family is eternally grateful for the love and attention they provided. A graveside service has taken place December 1 at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery with Rabbi Green officiating. Donations may be made in Anne's memory to the Museum of Human Rights or the Simkin Centre.
