BRENTON MCBRIDE HAYS With great love and wonderful memories, the family of Brenton McBride Hays announces his peaceful passing on December 4, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre. Brent will be greatly missed by his two children Carter and Cadence (Jared); mother Betty (David); sister Sandy (Larry) and many friends and family. Brent was predeceased by his wife Janice and father Bill. Brent was born June 4, 1947 in Winnipeg. He spent his childhood growing up in St. James then moved to St. Vital in 1973 after marrying Janice. Brent selflessly volunteered his time to his children and community through the coaching of minor sports. A perpetual role model and mentor to his son, Brent passed on his invaluable work ethic and mechanical skills. Brent's entrepreneurial spirit led to many successful ventures: restaurateur, carpenter/ contractor, landlord and wooden boat restorer, to name a few. Brent's true passions were his boats and the lake. In 1975, he built the family cottage on Mather Island at Lake of the Woods, ON. It was here that Brent, a.k.a. The Dude , spent many precious summers with his family. After a 10-year restoration, Brent recently showcased his 1947 Chris-Craft, the Silver Spray , at the Harbourfest Wooden Boat Show in Kenora. What a masterpiece! The family wishes to extend special thanks to all of the medical staff, numerous family friends and a dear family friend, Jackie Morin. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4A6. Neil Bardal Inc. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
