MAUREEN ELIZABETH HALLIDAY (nee CARR) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt Maureen Elizabeth Halliday on November 27, 2008 in the arms of her daughter surrounded by the love of her family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She will be deeply missed by her children Wendy, Dennis (Geraldine and daughter Avery), Lisa (Glen), grandchildren Aimee, Calvin, Ellisse, Carlin, Sydney, Austin and great-grandson Jayden; along with brothers Patrick and Terry. She was predeceased by her husband Denny in 2007 after 42 years of marriage as well as brothers Jimmy, Gerry and Brian. Mom was born July 9, 1941, the fourth and only girl of six children to immigrant Irish parents Jean and Henry Carr. She married her childhood sweetheart Denny and together built their home in Camp Morton, Manitoba. Motherhood and home making came so naturally to Mom. She was a stay-at-home mom until the youngest, Lisa, was off to school. She worked at Triple E and really enjoyed her time there. She later was employed at Betel Home where her kind, caring, nature shone through; Mom was many a resident's favourite care giver, during which time she maintained her family and provided palliative care for her mother. Mom loved to dance, bowl and skate. She won many bowling trophies and broke a record with a high score of 408 while bowling with Seagrams Mixed Bowling League. She could grow anything - her garden flourished. Mom was an exceptional cook, pastries her specialty and the memories of all the special meals and time spent together will forever be savored by each and every one of us, especially this past Thanksgiving, thanks Aaron and Ellisse. Our home always had music playing and on occasion Mom could be seen jiving in her kitchen. Mom never missed an opportunity to listen to a Bombers or Jets game with her son Dennis. The years following gramma's passing were challenging for Mom. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Especially visiting Lisa and family in B.C. Mom taught us many things but above all she taught us how to give of one's self, to be accepting of others and how to love unconditionally. Words cannot begin to describe the heartache we all feel.... She touched us deeply. Mom may you finally rest in peace, you faced this terrible disease with such inner strength, you were so brave.... Special thanks to Uncle Patrick for his visits, Geraldine for all her support and her nurse Michelle Goodman for her care. A celebration of life will take place in Camp Morton at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Through researching family I came across this very sad news. I too met Patrick and Jean when they came to Ireland. My mother was Elizabeth Carr, Henry's younger sister. I met Patrick while I stayed with my aunt May Woods nee Carr (another sister of Henry's). Our sincere condolences on the early death of Maureen, it would have been lovely to know her. Please get in touch if you see this. • In trying to research my Uncle Henry Carr's family I have been saddened to hear of the passing of Maureen. Your grandmother visited us in Ireland many years ago and I am living in the original birth house of your father. My deepest sympathies to you and the entire family. - Posted by: Gerry Carr (Cousin) on: Jan 29, 2013
