Dad also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Corrine Copping and Mabel Clark (Les); brothers-in-law, Paul Street (Doris) and Charlie Street (Gerry) and sister-in-law Margaret Dalman as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Ingo and Stefania Dalman; his sister Evelyn and her husband Gordon Copping, his brothers Harold and his wife Sheila, Gordon and his wife Audrey, Frank, and Arnold, brother-in-law Abe Copping and sister-in-law Kathleen Veters. Norman was born on April 9, 1920 in Selkirk, MB and spent his early years working with the family owned dairy farm. He met the love of his life Bette at a dance in Clandeboye and they were married on July 27, 1946 after he returned from the war. Dad was very proud to serve his country in the Second World War. He enlisted with the 20th Field Company Regiment of the Royal Canadian Engineers; serving overseas in Normandy, France and Holland. He enjoyed his three return trips to Holland one of which was for the dedication of a monument to his regiment at Arnheim. Traditionally on Remembrance Day, Dad got together with Gordon, Richard and Herb to reminisce. Norman was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 42 - Selkirk for 42 years. On his return from the war, dad and mom settled in Netley where they resided for 60 years. He loved working in the yard, cutting wood, feeding the birds and adopting stray wild life. Afi enjoyed barbecuing at family get-togethers, fishing, reading and watching sports. Mom and Dad loved attending major curling events and their trips to Edmonton, Saskatoon and British Columbia. In January 2007, dad and mom moved to Selkirk. Norman was involved with his community serving as a school trustee for the Netley Lake School. He later became involved with the community club and loved calling Bingo. He was known for his ability to repair lawn mowers, snow blowers and small engines. He was always there for his neighbours. Dad was employed by the federal government working at the Air Force Base in Gimli and later the Minto Armories in Winnipeg; retiring at the age of 65. Being an active senior, Norman quickly began employment with his brother Harold at the Gimli Lakeside Camp for the Disabled. Dad's caring and gentle nature made him a good fit for this job. Dad enjoyed good health until recently when a diagnosis of vascular dementia required that he move to Red River Place in Selkirk. During his brief stay, he received excellent and compassionate care. The family thanks the staff for their love and kindness during this difficult time. A Remembrance of Norman's life will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Gilbart's Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB. A private family interment will take place at Wakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norman's memory to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, 350 Michael Cowpland Drive, Kanata, ON, K2M 2W1. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
