Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA REINER (nee SHATAILO) December 3, 1912 - December 5, 2008 It is with deep sorrow that the family of Vera Reiner announces the passing of our family matriarch on December 5, 2008, shortly after her 96th birthday. She is survived by her four children, Paul (Stephanie) of Chicago, Barry (Lorraine) of Winnipeg, Lillian (Asher) of Haifa, Israel, and Linda (Gordon) of Toronto. As well, Vera was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Max, her brother Sam, her son William and two great-grandchildren. Vera volunteered for over 25 years at the Misericordia Volunteer Auxiliary, creating handicrafts. She loved reading, knitting, crocheting, and playing games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She developed her internal strength from her life experience. As a child, she escaped the Russian pogroms, hid in cornfields for days, and made her way to Canada with her family. She was widowed at a young age, and worked hard to raise her family. Despite her tough times, Vera's inner beauty radiated through her genuine smile and the sparkle in her eyes. Baba Vera always lit up when she was in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We are blessed to have shared her 96th birthday with her, just two days before she passed. Surrounded by family, Vera still exhibited her sharp wit and appetite for Jeannie's cake. She will be sadly missed. A graveside funeral will take place at Riverside B'nai Abraham Jewish Cemetery, 4639 Main St., West St. Paul, at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2008.
