LORNE NICHOLAS PAUL HUCULAK December 13, 1942 December 5, 2008 After a courageous battle with cancer, Lorne (Hootsie) went peacefully in the early morning of December 5, with his loving wife Shirley by his side. Lorne is survived by the love of his life and soul mate of 45 years Shirley; daughter Shirleen; son Lorne Jr.(Theresa); brother Ken (Donna); sister Lanette (John). Also brothers and sisters-in-law Ron and June Fewchuk as well as Pat and Joe Smolinski plus his numerous nieces and nephews. Lorne is predeceased by his father Nick (1972) and his mother Mary (1996); stepfather George Gowan (2000); father-in-law William Fewchuk (2005) and mother-in-law Mildred Fewchuk (2002). Lorne was born in Selkirk on December 13, 1942. He went to Gonor School were he met his future wife Shirley. They married on June 15, 1963. Lorne was employed at Pilkington Glass, Manitoba Rolling Mills and Lockport Appliances. Lorne and Shirley bought Sonia's Stand in May, 1969 and are still the current owners today. Their daughter Shirleen Natalie Esther was born April 4, 1971 and son Lorne Nicholas William Junior on September 11, 1974. Lorne was also part owner of the Bait House Minnows and Interlake Ice with his brother-in-law Ron. Lorne loved to play cards, crib, aggravation and canasta and was also a sports lover especially of hockey, baseball and football. Lorne attended many Grey Cups with the guys from Lockport. Lorne and Shirley enjoyed traveling all over the U.S.A and coast to coast throughout Canada. In his retirement years, he worked as a greens keeper at Mars Sandhills Resort in Libau. He enjoyed having breakfast with the boys and cold beers at the Lockport Inn. Lorne, Shirley and Shirleen enjoyed going to Vancouver in the winters to visit with his son Jr., Theresa and Bear. Lorne had a wonderful sense of humor even throughout his illness. The family would like to thank Dr. Lindenschmidt, Dr. Badenhorst and the wonderful and caring staff at the Selkirk General Hospital. We would also like to thank Dr. Kowlack, Dr. Morgan, Dr. Fong and Dr. Schroeder. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk at 7:00 p.m. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. also in the Chapel. Interment will follow the service at the McKenzie Churchyard Cemetery, on Henderson Hwy 204 N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Selkirk Palliative Care, 100 Easton Drive, P.O. 5000, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in Care of arrangements
