BEVERLEY GAIL JOHNSON Peacefully, following a brief illness, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Johnson on December 5, 2008. Gail will be lovingly remembered by her son Glenn Callis, daughter-in-law Gayle, and grandsons Steve and Warren. She will also be sadly missed by her aunt, Elsie Jackson and her cousin, Ronald Ledingham and his wife Carole and family. Gail was born July 23, 1937, the only child of Mickey and Violet Simmons. She grew up and lived in Winnipeg's West End her entire life. Gail worked for the Province of Manitoba for 31 years, most recently as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer. Happily, she retired young and spent a great deal of time with her mother, Vi Simmons, traveling to Hawaii, British Columbia, and throughout the United States. She also enjoyed summers at her small cabana in Winnipeg Beach; usually entertaining her young grandsons for the summer. Family was always Gail's priority. When her mother fell ill in her later years, Gail dedicated herself to Vi's care. When Gail was a young single mother herself, she would take summers off to spend with her son Glenn. She always had a full slate of sun and adventures planned. She was equally enthusiastic with her grandsons throughout their years of maturing to young men. Gail was a dog lover and her latest pet was Max now adopted by her grandsons Steve and Warren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home located at 669 Broadway. The family would like to thank the Grace Hospital's Drs. Joshua and Martin and the rest of the 5th floor staff for their wonderful care during mom's final days. Special thanks to nurse Jackie for the exceptional care and comfort provided in her final hours. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Grace Hospital Foundation.
