OLIVE BARBARA MORGAN (nee PHILLIPS) Peacefully, on Friday, December 5, 2008, in her 87th year, Mom passed away at the Grace Hospital with family by her side. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Nora and Alfred Phillips; husband Francis John Morgan; granddaughter Cheryl Miller; son-in-law Armand Lachance; brother-in-law Harold Chamberlin; sister Grace Chamberlin; sisters-in-law, Doreen Phillips and Bea Phillips. She is survived by her brothers, Alf and George Phillips; daughters, Sharon (Merv) Carpendale, Dianne (Fred) Morgan-Thompson, John (Carol) Morgan; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. Mom was born in Winnipeg on March 22, 1921 in Winnipeg. She attended Ralph Brown, St. Johns and Lord Selkirk Schools. Mom married the love of her life, Frank Morgan, on a cold winter's day, February 17, 1940. Shortly afterwards, Dad was sent off to serve Canada with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in the Second World War. Through five long years of the war, Mom raised their two beautiful daughters, Sharon and Dianne, instilling in them the love she had for Dad. When Dad returned to Winnipeg from the horrors of a Japanese Prisoner of War Camp in the fall of 1945, the reunion that took place can only be imagined. Dad always said that it was Mom's love that brought him safely home. They lived in Winnipeg, Owen Sound, Camp Borden and Angus, ON, Regina, SK, Edmonton, AB and CFB Shilo, MB. As an army wife, Mom dutifully packed up the house and family regularly for Dad's various postings across Canada. They added a son, John, to their family in 1955. Mom loved the piano and could play any song she heard by ear. With Mom on the piano and Dad on the saxophone, our home was filled with music many evenings. She was an incredible cook, baker and organizer, loved playing bingo, crib and bridge. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital Emergency Department for their kindness in Mom's final hours. Mom lived the last five years at Extendicare Oakview Place, where she blossomed and thrived. Their love, caring and kindness was above and beyond the call of duty and is cherished by our family. Thank you so much. Funeral service will be at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Donations in Mom's memory can be made to the Manitoba Naturalists Society or the Salvation Army. Till we meet again, Mom, we love you so much. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
