Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET SUDNEY YAUNISKIS October 21, 1918 - December 6, 2008 Mum passed away after a month long struggle with acute pancreatitis at St. Boniface Hospital. Mum was born on Trafalgar Day in the village of Abertridwr, Wales, the eldest of three children born to John and Margaret Rowlands. She leaves to mourn: her two children, David and Ann Hossie (David); sister, Phyllis Miles; brother, David Rowlands (Deilwen) and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Alphonse A. Yauniskis (August 4, 1975). She attended Caerphilly Grammar School before embarking on a nursing career and nursed in South Wales throughout the Second World War. She first met Dad, a Canadian medical student, in Cardiff at the beginning of the Second World War. They married September 18, 1948 and came back to Canada in 1949. The first four years were spent in the northern mining town, Snow Lake, MB, where Dad was the only doctor. Always a person of great energy, Mum would not accept less than the best from herself or her children. She proudly called herself a Stubborn Welshman . She was not shy with her opinions but said, There's good and bad in everyone. and always looked for the good. She and Dad had too brief a life together but they enjoyed the company of their many friends, including those in the Lithuanian and Welsh communities and the many organizations to which they belonged over the years. After a massive stroke in 1981, her determination enabled her to recover sufficiently to outlive several doctors, reclaim her driver's licence and learn to swim. Mum participated in adaptive exercises for many years at The Gwen Sector Creative Living Centre where she enjoyed the many friends she made. Although she said she didn't want a 90th birthday celebration, it was one of the few times she didn't get her way. She thoroughly enjoyed herself and all the letters of congratulations she received from the Governor General, Lieutenant Governor and elected officials. Heartfelt thanks to the Kozak family for their friendship and support over the last five decades. Mum would have missed the last 27 years if not for them and life would have been less rich without her. Special thanks to Dr. K. S. Jolly who was Mum's doctor for more than 30 years after taking over Dad's practice in 1975. Many thanks to Dr. M. Sharif, all the Homecare workers and those who cared for Mum over the course of 27 years. You were most appreciated. Many thanks also to the doctors (notably Drs. Lipson and Thorlaksen) and nurses at the Victoria General Hospital and to the nurses, HCA's and Constant Care staff in St. Boniface General Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, Mum would have appreciated contributions to the Dr. A. A. Yauniskis Memorial Bursary Fund at the University of Manitoba. It meant a lot to her and she treasured hearing from its recipients. For information please call Jolene at (204) 474-6510. Pallbearers are: Dennis Caine, Colleen Clark, David Hossie, Wayne Kozak, Darlene Ronald and David Yauniskis. Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Jess Bray and Karl Kozak. We told Mum we didn't want a winter' funeral but once again she had it her way! THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
