DARLENE CAROL MONA MARIE MACEY (nee VANDAL) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Macey on Wednesday, December 10, 2008; in the loving arms of her husband and with her loving two sisters at her side. Darlene was born on January 16, 1951 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her older brother Raymond, younger brother Richard, and her mother Flore and father Germain. Our precious Darlene will always be cherished by her loving husband Christopher, sisters, Suzette (Kevin Bungay), Claudette Vandal, sister-in-law Marguerite Vandal, nieces, Kristi (John Miller), Lacey Vandal, Nicole Galgoczy, and nephews Destry and Louis Galgoczy, grandnieces Danielle Galgoczy and Georgia Miller and grandnephew Zachary Miller not to mention sisters-in-law Diane (Kirk Kastes), Fran Macey, brother-in-law Richard Macey, nieces, Shaena (Lars Koester), Krystal Kastes, and nephews, Ryan Kastes (Kyla), Kurt Barnet, Richard Hammond (Belinda), Chad Macey (Tara), Logan Macey and friends forever Kathe Huot and Susan and Alan Markusson. In addition many more grandnieces and nephews and far too many other friends and extended family to mention as Darlene touched and made an impression on everyone that she met in her life. Darlene was a very remarkable person; she was truly the best of two very beautiful parents, Germain and Flore. Her flair for abstract expression, her ability to entertain, to show compassion and love for every living thing was really something to behold. Darlene was a gardener and landscaper extraordinaire, a professional shopper with an unmatched eye for beauty. Her natural ability with arts and crafts, to be able to create very intricate things from very abstract ideas, her attention to detail and clear vision of what she wanted, how she wanted it done and what it would look like when complete was her true forte in life. The beauty of her award winning home, her gardens, and her landscaping features are a visual testament to her vast array of unique talents. Darlene truly knew how to enjoy life. Her joie de vivre was evident to everyone who met her and anyone who shared an evening at the Macey's; dancing, listening to fine music and drinking fine wine, would attest that she knew both how to live and how to share that vision of enjoying life with others. As much as Darlene loved people her love of animals and her ability to connect with them was uncanny. She loved cats and dogs and birds and all things great and small. From her dogs Fleetwood to Desiree to her soulmate Nicki (for 15 years) and her large family of cats; Trouble first then Tiger and Suki (humane society rescues wanted one but couldn't break up the family), Pachoo (whom she saved from the rain and cold), lovable Dave (who just came knocking on the door one day), to Pharoah (her big boy Maine Coon). There were many more whose lives she saved and enriched. Darlene was an avid Bingo practitioner showing unprecedented dabbing skills and judgement seldom encountered on the PBC (Profession Bingo Circuit). The folks at Peter and Paul will miss her dearly (although her partner and her were known only by their pseudonyms, Betty and Veronica). Always feisty Darlene had a wicked sense of humor, a quick wit, and a sense for the risqué that wouldn't necessarily offend but would surely make you blush. Even while at Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital, she kept us laughing day and night while making the faces of grown men turn red. Her family extends many thanks to the many extraordinary care givers at the Palliative Care Unit, to Dr. Heather who looked after her so well for so many years and to the many folks at CancerCare Manitoba who truly do care. Funeral services will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home at 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darlene's memory to the Humane Society or the Quagga Stray-Cat Rescue Program. The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth,-- One is nearer God's heart in a garden Than anywhere else on earth. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
