EDNA FRANCES BALDWINSON Peacefully on December 7, 2008, Edna Frances Baldwinson, beloved wife of Al Baldwinson, passed away. Edna leaves to mourn her, a husband of 60 years, Al; children, Linda (Gord), Robert (Diane) and Donna (Al); grandchildren, Craig, Tracy, Lisa, David, Michael and Jennifer; sisters, Jean, Florence, Dorothy, Marian, Margaret and Blanche; brothers, John, Donald and Stan, and many nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her parents, George and Elizabeth Down; sisters, Edith and Daisy; brothers, Frank, William, Fred and Ron. Edna was born on July 24, 1924 in Fairlight, SK. As one of the eldest children in a large family, she was accustomed to hard work with long days. Edna put this trait to good use in her many endeavours throughout her life. Edna left the farm in 1942 to join the R.C.A.F. and was stationed in Trenton, ON. When the war ended, she left the Air Force and came to Winnipeg where she started a career at United Grain Growers. It was in Winnipeg where she met her future husband, Al, fell in love and was married on July 17, 1948. After having her three children, Edna went back to working part time at Eatons and later joined her husband in his insurance brokerage where she worked until retiring in 1984. Edna enjoyed the outdoors, and took pride in having a nice garden. She was a good athlete playing baseball, basketball in the Air Force (even at 5'1 ), golf and curling. She enjoyed sewing for the family and knitting. Edna began curling and playing golf at Rossmere later in life, but through hard work became good enough to represent Manitoba twice in the Canadian Senior Ladies Golf Championship and once with husband Al in the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. She also volunteered at the Manitoba Ladies Golf Association where she enjoyed working with junior golfers. Upon retiring, they moved to Sandy Hook, enjoying country living and golfing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and having them at the lake during the summer. Winters were spent in Texas, where she made many friends and enjoyed golfing at Landa Park. Edna, we all miss you and love you, God Bless You. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Misericordia Hospital, for their wonderful care of Edna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A private family service will be held.
