PATRICIA EDNA COX (SHEEDY) March 23, 1920 - December 5, 2008 It is with deep sadness that her family announces the passing of Patricia (Pat) Cox, on Friday, December 5, 2008 at her home in Winnipeg, MB. Mom was born March 23, 1920 in London, Ontario to Daniel and Edna Sheedy. Dan's military career led the family to relocate to Winnipeg in 1929, living briefly at the Fort Osborne barracks before later settling into a small but comfortable apartment on Corydon Avenue. As a girl, Mom attended St. Mary's Academy and following her school years, began working in the Eaton's Catalogue sales office. It was during the war years when Mom met a young RCAF sergeant named Ted Cox in Winnipeg, and the two were married on August 17, 1946. Following the war, Dad returned to his career with the Bank of Montreal and the couple were transferred to Prince Albert, SK where they started their family. Over the following 14 years, there were eight new additions to the family, and what was two, became ten! To say Mom was a working wife and mother was an understatement! Mom was, in today's language, awesome . Although we often teased her in later years about some of her creative meals , she was a wonderful cook and baker. Moreover, she could sew, mend, knit and crochet virtually any clothing item; in fact, she taught 4H sewing classes for a time, and was still knitting beautiful sweaters and outfits for her great-grandchildren. Ensuring all eight kids were clean, neat, and well-mannered were also priorities for Mom, along with instilling in us a strong work ethic, an appreciation for education, and values founded in religion. Mom was a devout Catholic who gave the church her time and financial support extensively throughout her life, and found strength in her faith during the challenging times. Along with balancing the daily needs and extra curricular activities of a large family, Mom had also been a member of The Order of the Royal Purple, and the Catholic Women's Auxiliary. She always carried herself with style, grace, dignityand a great sense of humour! Mom took great pride in her family. She enjoyed spending time together talking about what was going on in each of our lives, what was new with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and laughing and reminiscing about our years as a growing family. Mom and Dad retired in Neepawa, MB in 1984. Sadly, their amazing 53 year partnership ended in November 1999 with Dad's untimely passing. Mom continued to reside in Neepawa until August of 2003, when she moved to Winnipeg. Mourning her passing are her children Bob, Marilyn (Barry Hudson), Ken, Sheila (David Nikkel), Cathy (Blair Russell), Gerry (Brenda), Gord (Carolyn) and Tom (Ellie), along with 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, her sister-in law Kathleen (Kaye Ellington), and numerous nephews, nieces, friends and acquaintances. A funeral mass was held at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Neepawa, MB. on December 10, 2008, with interment at Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the St. Gianna's Roman Catholic Church building fund, or to a charity of your choice. White's Funeral Home Neepawa-Carberry in care of arrangements.
