Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS NEIL CARSWELL It is with great sadness that our family announces the unexpected passing of our husband, father and grandfather (Papa) at the age of 81 years on December 12, 2008 at the Victoria Hospital with family at his side. Doug was born in Winnipeg on April 17, 1927. Left to remember his laugh, smile, devotion and wonderful sense of humour is his loving wife Ginny; daughter Pat (Bob) Scardina, daughter Karen (Ron) Ghidoni, grandchildren Dwaine and Melissa, brother Ken (Sheila) Savage, as well as many other relatives and friends. Doug attended Daniel McIntyre School before setting off for adventure across Canada at the early age of 15. In his travels west he experienced life in many ways, from coal mining to lumber jacking. While working at Winnipeg Beach in 1948 Doug met and eventually married Ginny (Virginia) Cain. They were wed June 16, 1951 and enjoyed 57 years together. Doug enjoyed his chosen career as a courier eventually joining Canada Post where he was employed for many years until his retirement. Upon his retirement he enjoyed curling, bowling, fishing, tending his garden, walking and spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandkids. Doug will be missed by all those whose lives he touched and his memory will be treasured always. We wish to thank the devoted staff at Victoria Hospital and Home Care (especially Kevin) for the exceptional care and compassion. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550. Viewing will take place at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation and interment with a private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in memory of Doug, to the Alzheimer's Society of MB or Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division.
