LENA MARTENS Lena Martens passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2008 at Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg with her daughter Janet by her side. She was born June 30, 1928 to Nikolai and Justina Engbrecht at Whitewater, Manitoba. She was baptized on her confession of faith in 1947 by Rev. G.G. Neufeld at Whitewater Mennonite Church. She married John A. Martens August 4, 1949 at Whitewater Mennonite Church. She was mother of three children and grandmother of two; Albert and Penny and sons, Brett and Keith; Janet Martens; Eric and Ruth Martens. Besides her children and grandchildren, she leaves to mourn her husband John Martens; sister Anne (Dave) Shadforth, sister Katie (George) Neufeld; two sisters-in-law, Ramona Engbrecht and Betty Engbrecht and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Nikolai and Justina Engbrecht; brothers, Peter, Henry (her twin) and Jacob. Funeral service will be held Friday, December 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Good News Mennonite Church, 2764 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg, with interment to follow in Rivers Mennonite Church Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (Pancreatic Cancer Research), 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 or Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Unit 304-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4C6.
