THOMAS MACNEIL Thomas Joseph (Tom/Tucker) MacNeil, aged 75, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2008 after a brave battle with cancer. Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife Aline (née Lambert), son Kenneth, parents John and Mary MacNeil of Glace Bay, NS, sister Patricia, and brothers Kenneth, and Dennis. Tom's memory will be cherished by his son Garth, surviving siblings Joan (Fred), John, Eleanor, Donald (Yvette), Sheila, Rod (Marguerite), Gerry, and his many nieces and nephews. Tom was born in Glace Bay, NS, and travelled extensively across Canada. After working as a taxi driver, motorboat salesman, coal miner and tobacco picker, among other jobs, he settled in Winnipeg and spent 25 years working for the University of Manitoba in the paint shop. He was an active member of the labour movement, serving in various capacities in the Canadian Association of Industrial, Mechanical and Allied Workers (CAIMAW), including National President. He also served on the board of directors of the Alcoholism Foundation of Manitoba (now known as the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba). The family wishes to thank the staff of the Victoria General Hospital and particularly Oncology, Observation and 4 South. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's honour to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8. As per his wishes, there will be no service.
