DOROTHY MAE ELLIS Tragically, on the morning of Wednesday, December 17, 2008, Dorothy Mae Ellis, aged 77, left us. She leaves to mourn her husband of 56 years, George, daughter Marilyn Jares with husband Jay and daughter Cathy, son Glen and daughter Carol, sister Audrey Fulham and families, and the families of sister Barbara Sherritt. Also grieving are brothers-in-law and families: Bruce, Kenneth, Russell, Gordon and Garth Ellis, Ron Stewart and Morgan Kelso. She leaves behind as well many caring aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. Dorothy was predeceased by daughter, Cathy Lee, parents Edward and Doris Low, sister Barbara Sherritt and husband Irwin (Pat), George's parents Bessie and Joe Ellis and his sisters Marjorie Kelso and Dorothy Stewart. Dorothy was raised in the Foxwarren area. Prior to her marriage she attended the University of Manitoba School of Home Economics which helped solidify her skills, first instilled by her mother, in the art of creating clothing for her family and others. Wedding dresses were a speciality. After moving to Winnipeg in 1957 Dorothy's life revolved around raising her family, sewing, gardening, and engaging in such social activities as bowling and curling. Travel, hiking, and cross-country skiing were always a part of the life she shared with George and her family. The natural world was always a treasure for her. Dorothy and George moved to the R.M. of Cartier after many years in Winnipeg. On their two-acre lot they became well known throughout the community for their fabulous flower gardens, and for the pleasure they provided in engaging conversation with neighbours, whether in the yard or during strolls out and about. In recent years Dorothy and George developed strong friendships through their pattern and old-time dancing activities. You all know how much you've been appreciated. Dorothy will be sorely missed by many. Her son-in-law, Jay, remarks that she will be especially remembered for her kind and compassionate nature. There will be no formal service at her request. George invites friends and family to a time of coffee and conversation at Kirkfield Park United Church, 472 Kirkfield Street, on Saturday, December 27, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To the many of you who helped make Dorothy's a happy life, in lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
