Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE ADELIA BISSETT (nee JOHNSON) On Sunday, December 7, 2008, with family by her side, our Mom, Alice Adelia Bissett passed away at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home. Born in Lillesve, Manitoba, July 10, 1921, to Ingrid and Emil Johnson, Alice grew up in a family of six brothers and two sisters on the farm near Chatfield, MB. It was here that she met Harold Bissett who would be the love of her life for the next 63 years. Alice and Harold spent their early married years in MacKenzie Island, Ontario where they welcomed daughter Dale; then on to Fairlight, Saskatchewan and the addition of son Doug. Many years later, and now back in Winnipeg, daughter Debbi was born. Always an avid curler, Mom was a life member and Past-President of Deer Lodge Ladies Curling Club. She was also a tireless volunteer for the associations she was passionate about. A 45+ year member of the Vasa Lodge, she spent many years as Treasurer of the Swedish Canadian Home as well as giving of her time to work at the Nearly New Shop as a volunteer for the MacKinnon Guild for over 20 years. Mom was also an ardent bridge player, enjoying the challenge of the game and the companionship of her fellow players, particularly in her later years. She was very proud of her bronze medal in contract bridge, won in the 1998 MSOS Games. As a young girl in Chatfield, Alice enjoyed playing the accordion at the many country dances. This inspiration would live on throughout her lifetime, as she and Harold were always the first couple on the dance floor, and usually the last to leave. In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed their many travels, winters in Texas, and the company of their large circle of friends. Their home, in the Courts of St. James, provided the opportunity for daily early morning swims, card playing and of course Happy Hour . Alice was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2004 and son Doug in 1993. Left to mourn her passing are daughters, Dale Giesbrecht and Debbi Bissett, grandsons, Brad McCreedy and Andrew Robertson (Jen) as well as her first and only great-grandson, Atreyu Robertson. She is also survived by brother Sid Johnson, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Johnson and Mel Johnson as well as many nieces, nephews and life long friends. A special note of thanks to our cousins Shirley Johnston, Al and Sami Anderson, and to Lynne and Charles Begley all of whom were especially good to Mom during the past few difficult years. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Thorvaldson Care Centre and Tuxedo Villa for their kindness and care. No formal service will be held. Rather, a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in her honour may do so to Children's Hospital Research (The MacKinnon Guild), the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of their choice. Mom, we're sure that you and Dad are once again dancing together.
