Date of Passing: Dec 11, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLIE (CHARLES JAMES) MAIN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charlie Main, aged 79, on December 11, 2008, in Ajijic, Mexico. Mourning his passing are his daughter Sylvia Lynn, son David (Carol, Kayla) and their mother Barbara; his wife Armande and her daughter Renée (Drew, Alexandra). Charlie was predeceased by his son Kenneth in 1992. Charlie was born in 1929 to (Charles) Sydney and Mary Main and grew up in Balmoral, Manitoba, where he attended Balmoral School until 1948. He achieved his BSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba in 1952. After graduation he worked in Winnipeg, Toronto and Niagara Falls, eventually returning to Winnipeg to work for the federal and provincial governments. In 1994 Charlie retired to Ajijic, Mexico and spent his time between Mexico, Canada and the United States. He enjoyed his visits to Minneapolis to see his granddaughter Kayla and David and Carol. He regularly returned to Winnipeg to stay in touch with family and friends. In 2005 Charlie attended the Main family reunion, celebrating 100 years of continued farming at the family homestead in Balmoral. He had a great weekend visiting his cousins and their families. Charlie was the consummate host when visitors came to Mexico, always willing to put the tour guide hat on. Sylvia Lynn and Dad toured mountain areas, searched for volcanoes and rock pictographs and explored black sand beaches. He loved to venture off the beaten path always figuring he could negotiate his way out of anything. Charlie was very active and could regularly be seen biking into town on the Ciclopista . He made many good friends in Mexico and will be greatly missed by all of them. Sylvia Lynn and David feel very fortunate that they were able to spend a week together with their Dad, during the last week in November. We held Dad's hand, told him we loved him, shared memories, celebrated David's birthday and watched Hockey Night in Canada . All things that kids and Dads should do together. At Charlie's request, a private family service and interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Charlie's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the charity of your choice. Dad we will miss our visits and weekly conversations. Rest in peace.

Charlie was a wonderful boss and friend. He never failed to contact our family when he came to Canada. His wit, charm and wonderful personality will be forever missed. He faced great sorrows and tribulations in his life, but he always presented an optimistic view of the world. The loss of his son Kenneth was a great tragedy for him, but he continued to work as a volunteer for CancerCare for many years after Kenneth's death. Our family will always remember his cheerfulness and generosity. We will always remember his zest and enthusiasm for life. Kathi and Gary Wirth - Posted by: Kathryn Wirth (Family) on: Jan 21, 2009
