JEAN KURYK October 10, 1923 - December 18, 2008 The family of Jean Kuryk wishes to announce her passing at St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, December 18, 2008. She loved life, but finally succumbed peacefully to her illnesses Jean was raised in the north end of Winnipeg. She had a happy childhood even though times were difficult. She married her sweetheart Walter, just as the war was ending. Together they had two children, Claudia and Martin. Jean had many interests. She was passionate about music, opera and choral music in particular. She loved reading and was a student at the University of Winnipeg, courses for seniors. She loved sports. She made the best cabbage rolls and perogies in Winnipeg. She loved traveling (South America, Cuba, Mexico and Grand Forks) and weekends at Camp Rusalka. She was a great teacher and storyteller. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, just one month ago. She was also predeceased by her son Martin, her parents, Nikodem and Ann Zaniewich, her sister Helen (JB) Boychuk, her in laws Peter and Johanna Kuryk, George (Doris), Ollie (Bill) Mattrick, Mary (Henry) Weppler, and Bud Kuryk, and nephews Bob Boychuk, Andrew Kuryk, Billy Mattrick and Eddy Weppler. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Claudia (Andrew) Serray, granddaughter, Larissa Klymkiw (her father Peter), and her sister-in-law Terry Kuryk. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, especially Betty Bender, Lynne Kuryk and Donnie Kuryk, her special supporters. Panakhyda (prayers) will be sung on Sunday evening, December 22 at 7:00 p.m. in Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Ave. Divine Liturgy and the conclusion of the funeral rite will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Fathers V. Bashutskyy and N. Yakiwchuk will officiate. Pallbearers will be Travis Bender, Ric. Kuryk, David Kuryk, Rob Kuryk, Justin Weppler. Flowers graciously declined. Donations may be made in Jean's memory to the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, R3B 1M3 to Manitoba Opera 105 - 555 Main St., Winnipeg, R3B 1C3 or to a charity of your choice.
