CHARLES BACON It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Charlie Bacon, on December 19, 2008 at his residence in Piney, MB at the age of 74. Left to mourn is his children; son Jamie (Cheryle), and daughters Patti (Terry) and Laurie as well as his grandchildren Sarah, Spencer, Melissa, Scott and Dawson. Charlie was born to Cecil and Mary (nee Tacket) Bacon on September 16, 1934 in Darlington, England. He was the younger brother to sisters Josie, Evelyn and Connie. Traveling by boat for 5 days, he arrived in Canada on December 20, 1947. He spent most of his young life living in St. Vital riding motorcycles and his horses. AEI Telecommunications employed Charlie for 21 years, which took him and his family from Winnipeg to Kelowna and back again. Settling in St. Clements, Charlie spent many a summer making hay, tending the animals and toting his children to 4H and horseshows. After leaving the farm, he resided in Selkirk, MB, where he opened his own business of Selkirk Business Equipment until his retirement at the age of 64. Charlie's love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing eventually led him to Piney, MB. He enjoyed visiting with friends and always had a story to tell recalling people he knew and places he had been each in vivid detail. The family would like to acknowledge their Dad's many close friends and neighbours for their kindness and caring over the many years. We would also like to express thanks to the Vita Funeral Home for their thoughtfulness in this emotional time. In keeping with our father's wishes, there will not be a funeral service as cremation has already taken place. Sincere thanks to Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My mother Hilda was Cecil's older sister and they spent their early childhood together with foster parents in the village of Isleham, Cambridgeshire before being returned to the family in Darlington, aged 8 and 10. Auntie Mary would often bring Charlie and Connie to visit us in Bingley, Yorks before they immigrated to Canada after the war. I was the same age, as Charlie and remember him well. I would be happy to help any of your family researching your family tree. - Posted by: Betty Longden (nee Morton) (Cousin) on: Feb 06, 2019
