AUGUSTINE MARIE CHARTRAND (DESJARLAIS) Augustine Marie Chartrand (Desjarlais), passed away, peacefully, on December 21, 2008, at the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon, Manitoba. Our beloved mother, grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of thirteen, will be dearly missed. Tina is survived by her six children, Margaret (Donald) Wieben of Fairview, Alberta; Gordon (Maureen) Chabbert, Jim (Linda) Chabbert and Dennis Chabbert, all of Sioux Lookout, Ontario; Donald Chabbert of Dryden, Ontario; and Donna Chabbert of Fairview, Alberta; also her sister Mildred of Powell River, BC; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by many family members, including her husbands, Sigurdur Sigurdson, Joseph Chabbert and David Chartrand. Tina was born June 24, 1924 in Oak Point, Manitoba. She lived many years in the Oak Point - Lundar area. Although she moved to Ontario in 1957 she missed her many friends and family back home. She always said that one day she would move back to the openness of the Manitoba landscape and the area that she loved - which she did in 1993. Among her many accomplishments and involvements over her lifetime, in her later years her pride in her Metis heritage was at the forefront and she was a respected elder. Mom's love for family and life was evident in her everyday dealings with people. Her faith in God has helped her through life's ups and downs. Now she rests peacefully in His presence. Prayers will be held Tuesday, December 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon, Manitoba. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf's Catholic Church, Lundar, Manitoba. Interment to follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Oak Point. Luncheon will follow at the Lundar Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba CancerCare. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon, in care of arrangements.
