ELMA DEREWIANCHUK (nee KASKIW) It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dear Mother, Elma, on Sunday, December 21, 2008. She entered into eternal rest at age 92 at East View Lodge, in Neepawa, with her daughter at her side. Elma leaves to mourn her beloved daughter Angela (Angie); several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Anna Kaskiw; her husband Roland, in 1987, and sisters, Jessie Loda, Tena Genovy, Mary Bewza, Rosie Twerdochlib, Lena Mycasiw and brother Mike Kaskiw. Elma was born on the family homestead in Olha, Manitoba on January 1, 1916 to Anna and Anton Kaskiw. She attended Marconi School and left the farm to start working when she was 16 years old. Her work took her to Flin Flon, Thunder Bay, and Winnipeg. She met Roland Derewianchuk in Winnipeg and they were married on August 19, 1948. They moved to Neepawa in 1950 and were married 39 years until Roland passed away in 1987. Elma enjoyed being a wife and mother. She loved gardening and tending her flowers. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her delicious pies, cakes and Ukrainian dishes. In her later years she enjoyed sewing and doing her many crafts which she liked to share with others. Elma was always very devoted and dedicated to the care and well-being of her family. In 2005, Elma moved to East View Lodge and remained a very strong, independent and determined lady. Elma was devoutly religious and never missed praying her rosary on a daily basis. Her determination, courage, faith, and strength saw her through many hardships and health problems. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Angela, extended family and friends. Rosary will be said on Wednesday, December 24 at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of the Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, Neepawa, Manitoba with Father David Kowalski officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. MOM She never failed to do her best Her heart was true and tender She toiled hard for those she loved Then left them to remember At early evening when all was still God gave his Great Command In silent peace she passed away Into the Better Land Rest In Peace, Mom Vichnaya Pam'Yat Everlasting Memory White's Funeral Home, Neepawa, in care of arrangements.
