SEBASTIAN (SYL) MEDWID It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Syl, on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at the age of 73 years. He was born December 10, 1935 to Anne and Tony Medwid in Dauphin, Manitoba. Syl received his education at Trembola School, Sifton High School and graduated from McKenzie Collegiate in Dauphin. At a young age, he went to Toronto to Aunt Elsie and Uncle Harry's to further his education in a field he was good at, Electronic Technology. It was in Toronto that he met his wife and the mother of his children, Barb. They later moved to Windsor, ON, where he worked at Gray's TV for many years. In 1975, he retired and traveled extensively with his life long companion Betty. Eventually, they parked their travel trailer in Yuma, Arizona, where they met many friends and experienced many happy times living their dream. In 1983, they returned to settle in Winnipeg and it was shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with a rare cancer, making it into a Medical Research Journal; however, he succumbed to a heart attack, after a very successful battle with the cancer. He lived life to the fullest, was a pool shark, chess champion, Jack-of-all-trades and an artist, just to mention a few great attributes. Syl was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Anne Medwid; brother Edward Medwid and nephew Brian Medwid. He leaves to mourn his passing his lifelong companion, Betty; his children, Jeffery (Lisa) Medwid, of Kingsville, ON; Lisa (Steve) Stach, of Okotoks, AB; Tim Restoule, of Okotoks, AB; step-children, Doug Shinnie, of Regina, SK and Glenna (Tony) Van Everdink, of Regina, SK; sister Dianne (Jerry) Medwid, of Dauphin, MB and her son Anthony (Amanda) Medwid, of Lockport, MB; as well as, numerous extended relatives and many friends. A gathering with viewing will be held on Saturday, December 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
