JOE BLANKENBORG July 3, 1935 - December 20, 2008 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, after a battle with cancer. Our loss is immeasurable but our memories are forever and we take comfort that his pain and suffering are over. Some people in this life have the ability to light up a room with their smile and sense of humour. Our Dad and Grandpa was truly a joy to be around. Some of his favourite times were spent at the farm with his loving family around him. Joop was born in the Netherlands and moved to Canada in 1957 where he began a new life working in construction. In time, he bought land and started his own farm. He met his wife Sharon in 1964 and together their farm grew from a few head of cattle into a full dairy operation. He retired from the farm in 2002. Joe will forever be remembered and cherished by all of his family - his beloved wife of 41 years, Sharon; his sons, Wayne and David (Susie); his daughters, Karen (Dave) and Diane (Rod); and his grandchildren, Sierra, Shane, Emma and Ethan, who all brought joy to his life. He will be sadly missed by his family he leaves behind in the Netherlands and their memories of his vacations to the homeland will be forever cherished. Joe had many close friends that he held dear to his heart and enjoyed having them over for coffee and lending them a helping hand whenever he was needed. Joe loved the outdoors and was truly happiest when he was attending auction sales or working at the farm or in the hay field. He enjoyed planting a large vegetable garden every summer and then giving away the fruits of his labour to his children and friends. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, in Stonewall, Manitoba. Interment will follow at the Woodlands Catholic Cemetery, in Woodlands, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
