FLORENCE ELIZABETH CANN 1912 - 2008 Our mother died peacefully, her three daughters at her side, on December 23, 2008. She was 96. Florence Elizabeth Moriarty was born on April 2, 1912 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. She was raised in several communities in southern Manitoba before her family settled in Elm Creek in 1929. In 1935 Florence married Wesley Clifford Cann who died prematurely in 1956 at the age of 47. They had three daughters. As a young woman Florence worked in the Elm Creek General Store. Later she worked for many years as a telephone operator with MTS. She lived her whole adult life in Elm Creek, later living in Winnipeg to be close to her family. Mom was predeceased by many family members and friends including her husband, her brother, Allen Moriarty, and her two sisters, Doreen Moriarty and Bernice Zawada. She is survived by a large family in whose love and company she revelled. She leaves her daughters Pat Robinson (Doug), Merle Baker (Bruce), and Bev Cann (Leonard MacWilliam), nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a nephew, Allen Moriarty, and nieces and nephews. Florence was grateful for all the blessings in her life and we are grateful that we were able to have her in our lives for so long. She was very thankful for the care from WRHA Home Care staff and, most recently, for the care provided by staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge, with special thanks to Marcia. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the United Church in Elm Creek. In lieu of flowers, Mom would be happy for donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or to Golden West Centennial Lodge.
