JAMES EDWARD KULLMAN On Tuesday, December 23, Dad left this life doing what he loved most-playing hockey. Jim left behind his best friends, Linda, Steven, Carol-Anne, Marilynn, Ainsley, Kenny, Brandi, and bestest friends Owen, Andrew, Drake, and Chayce. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Dolores, and his sisters Maureen and Linda. Jim is survived by his sister Brenda. Jim enjoyed working on the farm with his father in law, earning the favour of Linda's father in order to marry her in 1969. Jim affected the lives of so many high school students teaching at Glenlawn Collegiate for 30 years. Dad loved playing hockey, playing with the Midnight Flyers, the Chicken Pluckers, and many other teams. Dad had passion for so many things-his passion for hockey was passed onto his children and grandchildren. After Dad retired, his hard exterior started to soften, letting us really get to know him as a friend instead of the tough-love Dad we knew as children. We are truly thankful for those years. We finally started to understand his passionate language of action. Dad enjoyed so many things, hunting and fishing, snowboarding, woodworking, going to extraordinary lengths to help others, working on his bees, and hunting for a good bargain. Lets remember Jim by sharing memories of him with each other. The funeral will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Avenue W. at 10:00 a.m., on December 29, with Pastor Dan Abraham officiating. Interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. Hockey jerseys are acceptable attire. There will be a public skate in memory of Jim at Hazelridge Arena at 6:30 pm on December 29. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kidsport Canada - Manitoba 200 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4M2.

  • I had the great pleasure of having Mr. Kullman as my Grade 10 biology teacher. He was firm, but fair, and would help students who demonstrated that they wanted help. He had a great influence on me, as once I left Glenlawn, I eventually ended up in medical school, due to my enjoyment of biology that Mr. Kullman so dutifully cultivated in me. Mr. Kullman knew how to interact with teenagers well, his closing comments on Fridays' classes were, "Have a good weekend and don't drink too much root beer." It was obvious that Mr. Kullman loved hockey, especially the New York Rangers. In my yearbook, he wrote that they were going to win the Stanley Cup that year, as it was their turn, paraphrasing a popular lottery ticket commercial from the mid 1970s. When Mark Messier did hoist the cup as captain of the New York Rangers, I remember thinking at the time how happy Mr. Kullman must have been at that point. I am sad to learn he has passed on into the next world, and pray that God will keep him close always. Mr. Kullman, you can drink all the root beer you want now! - Posted by: Ian Cowan (ex-student) on: Sep 11, 2018

  • Jimmy was the guy who got us camping and canoeing and all those outdoor activities that we have made a way of life over the past 40 years. What you saw was what you got.!! We have appreciated his love and friendship since those "young" Radisson Days. We will never forget the berrypicking, catamarands, outhouse building (moss required), and bonfires on various beaches and rocky shores in the Whiteshell. His memorable quote, "Andrew don't wave to THE GIRLS on the shore as our canoe is doing a submarine dive in the rapids!" Friends forever!!
