KENNETH GAIR It is with sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth (Ken) Gair on December 25, 2008 at the age of 77. Ken is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Lynne Gair; daughter and son-in-law, Patti Gair and Don Freiling; and his three grandchildren Emily, Adam and Katrina. Also left to remember Ken are his niece, nephew, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many close friends. Ken was a gentle and kind soul who continued to be a caring and supportive father to Ross and Patti even after they were grown and had children of their own. Ken took great pride in his grandchildren who were the apples of his eye. Ken was the only child of Jessie and Johnny Gair and, with the exception of a few years in The Pas, grew up in MacGregor, Manitoba where he was doted on by his grandmother and many aunts and uncles. Ken moved to Winnipeg as a young man enjoyed a long career at the Canadian Wheat Board as a computer programmer. There he met Thelma Hibbert whom he later married. Ken and Thelma settled in Charleswood where they raised their two children. The family spent many long summer vacations camping, hosted and attended many family gatherings and made frequent trips to MacGregor to visit friends and family. Ken was active in sports all his life playing hockey, golf and curling but baseball, which he excelled at, was his game. Ken coached Ross in baseball and was an umpire. He also enjoyed reading, listening to old time music and doing crossword puzzles. Ken lost his loving wife Thelma in 1985 and in 1988, after 33 years, he retired from the Canadian Wheat Board. In retirement he continued with the sports he enjoyed and participated in activities at the Charleswood Legion where he made many close friends. Ken never complained and was always there to help family and friends. His quite nature and goodhearted chuckle will be sadly missed. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
