SOPHIE LOCKHART (nee HOLOWATY) On Tuesday, December 23, 2008, after a lengthy illness, Sophie Lockhart passed away peacefully at home. Sophie was born on May 31, 1936 in a small village (Cello) in Poland. She came to Canada in 1958 to join her parents Anastasia and Nicholas in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In Poland, Sophie learned the trade of welding and brought those skills to Canada. She worked at Co-op Implements and New Flyer Industries for many years as a specialized welder. Several years before her retirement, she worked at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Sophie was known to all her co-workers, family and friends as a warm, generous and hard working individual. Sophie enjoyed gardening, sewing, children and pets. She was a great supporter of hockey and a great hockey mom. She will always be remembered as the most giving and selfless person anyone could ever meet. She truly had a heart of gold and kind and gentle spirit. Her actions spoke louder than words. Sophie is predeceased by her mother Anastasia Kotlar (d. 1997) (Holowaty) and her father Nicholas Kotlar (d. 1989). She is survived by her husband Maurice Lockhart; her three sons Joseph (Diane); Jimmy Tommy (Tannis). She is also survived by her four grandchildren Jared, Hayden, Andrew and Nicole, as well as many aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces. The family wishes to thanks Dr. K. Lamba and Dr. A. Maksymiuk and all the nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba for all their wonderful help and support and in taking care of Sophie during her illness. Prayers will be offered Tuesday evening, December 30, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day Street.
