ELLA ELIZABETH (ELSIE) WIGHTMAN (nee KREITZ) October 15, 1921 - December 23, 2008 Peacefully on December 23, 2008 in the Emerson Palliative Care after a courageous battle with cancer, Elsie , age 87, passed away with her family by her side. Elsie will be fondly remembered by her children William (Judy), Connie, Edward (Mary), Patricia (Darrell), John (Lisa), 14 Grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, two brothers (Willard and Art), four sisters (Lil, Edna, Esther and Ruby) and several nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Edward James Ted Wightman, her parents Harry and Christina Kreitz, her in-laws Sid and Katherine Wightman, her son-in-law Gene James and 10 of her brothers and sisters. Elsie grew up in a family of 17 in the Ridgeville area where her parents farmed. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and went to school in Springbank. After she finished school, Elsie moved to Emerson to work in a restaurant. There she met and married her lifelong partner Ted Wightman on Dec. 15, 1940. During Elsie's life, she enjoyed several different activities which included curling, bingo, fishing, travelling, cards, cribbage, volunteering at the Emerson Personal Care Home, gardening and flowers but her biggest joy was her family. A special thank you to Dr. Kolakowski, Paulette and the nursing staff at the Emerson Personal Care Home and to Terry Wiebe and his staff for their help, compassion and comfort during this time. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emerson Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emerson Palliative Care. Arrangements entrusted to Wiebe Funeral Home of Altona, MB.
