HEINZ GEORGE MORSCHECK April 3, 1939 - December 28, 2008 After a courageous battle with cancer, Heinz Morscheck passed away on December 28, 2008 at the age of 69. He will be sadly missed by his wife Helga, of 44 years, son Frank, daughter Sandra Patterson (Keith) and three grandsons; Dustin and Dylan Morscheck and Shane Patterson. He will also be missed by his brother Fritz (Maria) of Vancouver, nieces Monica (Pat) and Doris (Merv) and their children; brother Alfred and family of East Germany; sister-in-law Elisabeth Witt and family. Heinz was predeceased by his brothers Hans and Klaus and brother-in-law Hans Witt. Heinz was born in Schonlanke, East Germany, on April 3, 1939, the second youngest of 11 children. Later, after moving to West Germany, he studied to become a butcher. After completing his studies in 1958, at the age of 19, he left the turmoil of Germany immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. He settled in Winnipeg, where he met and married Helga and together they raised their two children. He worked as a butcher and meat cutter his entire adult life, retiring at the age of 67 only due to his illness. His last employer was Central Meats on Nairn Avenue. Heinz was an avid outdoorsman, who spent all of his free time camping, fishing and hunting. Many, many long weekends and summer vacations were spent at Caribou Falls, Ontario, where the fishing was great and the fish stories even greater. The rest of the weekends were spent at the farm in St. Laurent, Manitoba or hunting with Frank and all his other buddies over the years. He greatly enjoyed his trips to Vancouver, to visit family and especially spend time fishing in the ocean with Fritz. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Care, 3E for their wonderful care during Heinz's brief stay. They would also like to express great thanks to the Palliative Care nurses Olga and Richard, who came by faithfully and whenever called upon, so that Heinz could stay at home as long as possible. In keeping with Heinz's request no funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will take place at the Mosaic Reception Lounge, 1839 Inkster Blvd. (corner of Inkster and Keewatin) on Friday, January 2, 2009 between 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.
