ELENE VAN HARTEVELT (nee NORDAL) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elene Van Hartevelt, on Christmas Day, at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband William; and leaves to mourn her passing her sister Susanna Corbett (Doug); sister-in-law Edythe Nordal; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Elene was particularly close to and will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, Darlene Thomas, Jan Thomas, Adele Primeau, Lorraine Larson, Carol Rischer and Betty Loveday. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed. Elene was born April 5, 1917, in Los Angeles, California, and married the love of her life William (Bill) on October 23, 1937. Bill and Elene loved the outdoors and spent many happy times together gardening, camping, boating and fishing, prior to Bill's death in 1973. A lifelong resident of Selkirk, Elene worked for many years at Selkirk Pharmacy and further contributed to her community through volunteering for many years for Meals on Wheels and at the Bethel and Middlechurch Homes. Blessed with a love for life and a wonderful spirit of adventure, Elene travelled much of the world. She was never afraid to try something new, whether posing on a camel, parasailing in her 70's, or riding Disney's Mattehorn roller coaster at age 81. To celebrate her life, we will be gathering on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, in Selkirk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
